Erie defeated the defending 4A state champion Pueblo South on Friday night, winning by a score of 35-14.
Noah Roper broke his nose on the first (defensive) drive of the game and had to sit out the first offensive series. Gavin Mendoza would score Erie’s first touchdown to make it 7-0 Erie. Roper had his nose popped back into place and scored two more first half touchdowns.
After fumbling on the first drive of the second half and having it returned for a touchdown, Roper bore down and ran his way back down the field for another touchdown. He also ran in the two point conversion to make it 28-7.
Erie would score again on a Roper run and Pueblo South found the end zone on offense for the only time all night for the final score of 35-7.
